Raw Vegan Quinoa Bread From Brigitte Mars's "Rawsome" book.

So I was adapting a "raw bread" recipe from the Rawsome book to use quinoa instead of a gluten based grain like wheat or rye.  End result was that I probably needed to spread it thicker and include more of a binder like chia or flax (soaked) to help "hold" the bread together.  But I was trying not to use so many seeds in everything!  Irish Moss may be a good binder, as it doesn't add fat or too many calories, and yet thickens the dough.  Agar may be good too.  Agar is "Vegan Gelatin", a seaweed that you can use in making Vegan Block Cheezes or Vegan Gelatin.  You heat the Agar powder or flakes with the water until it creates that gel and then you can stir it into your "Project".  I love the Rawsome book as Brigitte is a breath of fresh air and the recipes are not terribly complicated.

Organic Carrots.  Shredded in my SaladShooter (a retro product that is "cheesy" but works okay for stuff like this).  I always keep 12 pound bags of organic carrots in my fridge.  Even if I don't juice for a period of time, I use them to make raw veggie chips, salads, blended to put on top of dog food, etc....

"RAWSOME" POSTS FROM BRIGITTE MARS'S BOOK

Other posts from the book:

Sprouted Quinoa.  I just sprout until there are little tails.  Always the fear of "fermentation" if ya wait too long.  Quinoa is an amazing source of protein with amazing aminos.  Also Gluten Free.

Have been using massive amounts of cinnamon.  Rumor has it that it is good for blood sugar and even though apparently my blood sugar is good, I always "cover my ass" because I tend to eat lots of fruit.  Now.......From what I have read multiple places, most fruits tend to be low to mid glycemic.  So now I am not so concerned with that, but still do the cinnamon shots.  However, not in the nuevo "taking it dry" kind of way.

Handy Dandy Food Processor.  A kitchen staple.

Spreading the "bread" kind of thin, as there is always concern that raw foods "ferment" or go bad if they are too thick.  New research shows that one may be able to set the dehydrator at 145 for 2 hours when you first put food in, and that will help get rid of lots of water & not "damage" the food.  Then you can set it for 105 or whatever temperature you believe is the "raw limit".  :)

So either I didn't spread the bread thick enough or didn't put in enough "binder" like a flax or chia.  It pretty much "broke" apart & wouldn't have done that if I would have used a grain with gluten (like was called for in the recipe).  But still quite good, just not suitable for "sandwiches".  Still a great gluten free snack packed with lots of essential amino acids & sprouted protein!

Sunflower Power Balls from Brigitte Mars's "Rawsome" book

Sunflower Power Balls from Brigitte Mars's "Rawsome" book.  I found myself making yet another super quick & easy raw food recipe from Brigitte Mars's "Rawsome" book.  So far I have made the Brazil Nut Pancakes, the Poppyseed Pastry & the Raw Vegan Spinach Dip & have absolutely loved them all.

Rawsome!
"Rawsome" by Brigitte Mars.  Master Raw Food Chef & Herbalist.

Raisins & Tahini.  For "Sunflower Power Balls" from Rawsome Book.

Cinnamon, Sunflower Seeds, Raisins, Carob, Tahini.

Sunflower Seeds.

Carob.  I use whatever type I have.  While I like to buy Raw Organic from Mountain Rose, I also pick it up at Whole Foods as well.

You put all the ingredients in a mixing bowl. (KitchenAid for me)

Dates.

Mix until the dates make everything sticky enough to form into balls.

Just Roll into Balls and then roll balls into remainder of sunflower seeds.

I ate these up pretty quickly.  Storing them in mason jars in the freezer worked well and they are truly "power bites".  Instead of Chocolate Peanut Butter it is "Carob Sunflower".  Earthy tasting &  none of the guilt.

Here are some links to other Brigitte Mars "Rawsome Recipes" that I have made so far....

I'm curious about other people's experiences with this book.  Brigitte has lots of books about Herbals & Natural Health.  This is her "Raw Food Book".  Do you have this book at home?  Which recipes have you tried?  Did they turn out as expected?  Do you find this book easier than a lot of raw food books?  Do you have any of her other books?

I am loving this book.  The recipes seem easier to me, a bit more simple.  There is a fair amount of fat in some of them, but I am still eating fat.....I also love that she is an herbalist and an advocate of "wild" plants or "eating weeds".  Dandelions & Nettles are the true superfoods!!  I do have her "Beauty by Nature" book, which I recommend.  Lots of organic "body"  recipes you can make at home.

Raw Vegan Spinach Dip from Brigitte Mars's "Rawsome" Book

Spinach, Lemons, Nutmeg & Tahini.  Making Raw Vegan Spinach Dip from Brigitte Mars's "Rawsome" Book.  Another simple dish from the "Rawsome" book.

Simple.  Just put it all in the food processor. There's an onion in there too!

In just a few seconds you have organic spinach dip.  If you buy the pre-washed stuff from the store, this is NO work!

So much easier than buying dip!  And there is zero nasty stuff in it!
The tahini is chock full of calcium as well!

I made a bunch of carrot chips with my "Salad Shooter".  I didn't wear a 50's dress, but felt kind of like I should have.....I am a big fan of the Salad Shooter now!!  We got the "professional model" which probably has just a slightly bigger opening than the "normal" model.

Brigitte Mars's "Rawsome" book.  The recipes I have made from this book so far have been really easy and yummy.  We loved this dip.  The tahini gives it body and it feels really "clean".  One of those super quick raw food recipes.  No dehydrating required!  And veggie chips (raw) are great to use for the dip.  Lots of water & basically zero calories.  But high in fiber & vitamins.

Romaine Lettuce from our Square Foot Garden.  I have been talking to the slugs and they curse at me.
So I put down DE, which is supposed to be non-toxic.  I get food grade, not pool cleaner stuff.  I have heard the pool cleaner stuff isn't so non-toxic.

See Brigitte Mars talking about "Purslane".  A "weed" to some and "superfood" to others!

Other Recipes I made from Brigitte Mars's Book so far are....
